Founded by Jude in 2011, Healing Space is committed to sharing the benefits of yoga with people living with cancer, those undergoing treatment, and those in recovery. The Healing Space course offers specialised training for yoga teachers and therapists, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to safely and effectively adapt yoga practices for people affected by cancer.
The benefits of yoga for cancer
Yoga offers numerous benefits for overall well-being, supporting the mind, body, and spirit. It has provided comfort and relief to many individuals facing illness or injury, helping them maintain a sense of calm and balance during times of stress and crisis. While yoga is not a cure for cancer, it can significantly improve your quality of life during and after treatment. By calming the mind, yoga can help you manage the emotional and psychological stress that often accompanies a cancer diagnosis. Additionally, it may alleviate common symptoms and side effects such as fatigue, pain, nausea, sleep disturbances, and depression. After treatment, yoga serves as a gentle way to stay physically active, encouraging a healthy lifestyle while helping you feel grounded, reconnect with your body, and celebrate life.
Work with Jude
Jude has been practising yoga since 1991, teaching since 2004, and has been course director on Healing Space since 2011. She has taught yoga for cancer modules for YogaCampus and the Scottish School of Yoga Therapy, and has worked for several cancer charities and the NHS. Since 2021, she has worked in Hospice and palliative care as a spiritual care chaplain. Jude returned to yoga teaching in 2023 following a traumatic injury. She credits much of her recovery to yoga, and the depth of embodied awareness it has given her. Jude is available for private online sessions as well as yoga teacher mentoring, supervision and coaching
The Healing Space Course
Since 2011, The Healing Space course has trained dozens of yoga teachers and therapists to safely and confidently adapt yoga practices for people living with cancer. Following a sabbatical, I have taken some time to update, and refresh the training and have included everything I have learned working as a Hospice and Palliative Care chaplain.
The course is now ready to be relaunched and I am delighted to be working alongside my friend and colleague Stephanie Shanti Bosanko of Shanticentre Training School to offer it as a Yoga Alliance Professionals 40-hour accredited training.
